When you were here before

Something I learnt today: The Journal of Microbiology is not as easy to locate as one would think.
Something that made me laugh today:An incredibly Bob Dylan rendition of “Creep”

There’s a man wrapped in plastic under my house.

I awoke at 8 this morning, after going to sleep at about 2.30 (I’m beginning to feel rather like Professor Snape with my growing dislike of a young Harry Potter and his detrimental effect on my sleeping patterns). But I crawled out of bed and did silly little things with the music turned down low (so I may hear the doorbell) while I waited.

I was desperate at about 9 to get online and see whether some e-bay seller had responded to my e-mail (he had) and if Sarah had bought the last Green Day ticket (she did). But I didn’t want to connect to the internet just to have the Telstra repairman rock up and ask me to disconnect.

The window that the ever-so-helpful woman on the Telstra hotline had given me was 8 – 12. Admittedly this is better than some other places will give you, but I’m not a fan of waking at 8 am after 5 and a half hours sleep.

I eventually gave up on this, went online, received my e-mails, purchased something from e-bay and started to download the updates for Adobe Acrobat that meant I could start writing the assignment due in a week’s time that is worth 10% of the grade for the subject. One MB out of 11 I managed to download before the man showed up at 10.15.

It’s now almost 11 and he’s been crawling around and asking me questions, which I had not the foresight to ask of someone who might know the answer, to (I’m assuming) establish whether or not the broken phone socket is the first one installed in the house or not i.e. whether he can charge me for his services.

The only thing he’s said to me so far that was really of interest was that there is cabling *everywhere* under and above the house. This, I feel quite confident, I can blame my father for.
