The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Something I learnt today: Alan Rickman makes a good Marvin
Something that made me laugh today: The movie
So Matt took me to see the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on the big screen last night. According to him I was laughing for the entire show. That sounds realistic.
As the movie started, I must admit, I was reciting the damn thing. But as Mr Prosser was kindly asking Arthur to get out of the way of the bulldozer I found a few of my favourite lines were missing. Not to worry, they can't possibly have room for it all. I still laughed with my self at the memory.
Even though I'm very much one for not bastardising the classics, when the plot drifted away from the original storyline (John Malkovich appearing as Humma Kaluva and all that goes with him) I had no complaints about the development (with the exception of the sexual tension Hollywood feels the urge to throw into every thing that it produces).
Bill Nighy, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell were great choices, fitting perfectly into their roles. I must admit, I'm still a fan of the Ford Prefect from the TV show, as well as the original Dent, Arthur Dent (although he does make a short appearence).
Overall - very worthwhile. I really liked the Stephen Fry (a good friend of Douglas Adams) was narrating because it said to me that the movie would have had the approval of the genius who created the context.
